What is Instafest?

Instafest is a free web application that creates a personalized three-day music festival lineup poster based on your Spotify listening data. Created in 2022 by Anshay Saboo, a computer science student at the University of Southern California, the app quickly went viral as users shared their festival lineups on social media.

Similar to Spotify’s Wrapped recap, Instafest presents your top artists and tracks as a visually appealing festival poster. Additionally, it displays a Basic Score, ranging from 0 to 100, indicating whether your music preferences are mainstream or niche. Instafest turns your most played tracks and artists into a festival-style lineup, making it a fun and engaging way to share your musical taste.

Understanding Instafest Spotify

Instafest is not an official Spotify product but a third-party web application that uses two key components:

  1. Spotify’s Web API: This allows Instafest to securely retrieve and analyze a user’s listening data, including top artists, tracks, and playlists.
  2. Data Visualization: Instafest uses algorithms to create a personalized three-day lineup poster based on your most listened to artists.

Instafest offers several customization options:

  • Select a time range for listening history (4 weeks, 6 months, all-time).
  • Choose a visual theme for the poster.
  • Customize the festival name.
  • Hide or show your Spotify username.

These features enable you to tailor the final output to your preferences before sharing it on social media.

Why Every Spotify User Should Have Instafest

Here are some of the key features that every Spotify user should connect their accounts with Instafest to create their own personalized music festival lineup:

  • Discover New Artists: The app highlights rising acts you haven’t heard before based on your listening data.
  • Share Music Taste: Easily visualize and share your musical preferences with friends, and compare lineups.
  • Walk Down Memory Lane: Review your lineup over different periods to see how your tastes have evolved and rediscover forgotten favorites.
  • Preview Spotify Wrapped: Get a sneak peek at your listening habits and top artists before Spotify Wrapped is released.
  • Completely Free: Enjoy unlimited festival poster creation and customization at no cost.

Getting Started with Instafest Apple Music

Apple Music integration with Instafest is in beta, but you can still create lineups by following these steps:

  1. Add the Apple Music Replay 2023 playlist to your library for Instafest to access your top artists.
  2. Open the website and select “Create from a Playlist.”
  3. Sign in with your Apple ID and complete two-factor authentication if prompted.
  4. After signing in, the app will load your listening data and calculate your festival lineup.

From here, you can pick a timeframe, select a theme, customize options, and download or share your Apple Music Festival Lineup. Note that since Apple Music support is in beta, you may encounter bugs, but it’s still a fun way to create and share lineups based on your listening stats.
